Privacy Policy
Stringer Pro is a fishing companion app for Midwestern anglers, covering Illinois and Iowa. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and what we never do with it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
What we collect
We collect only what the app needs to work. There is no advertising network, no analytics SDK, and no third-party tracker in Stringer Pro.
- Account: your email address and the display name you choose. Your password is handled by our authentication provider and is never visible to us.
- Catches you log: species, length, optional weight, the water you tagged, the date, and — if you allow location access — the GPS coordinates of the catch.
- Photos you choose to attach to a catch or use as a profile picture.
- Conditions at the time of a catch: temperature, wind, barometric pressure and moon phase, recorded automatically so the app can show you your own patterns.
- Group membership: which private groups you create or join.
- Crash reports: if the app hits an error, it records the error message, a stack trace, your app version and your device platform so we can fix it.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect your contacts, browsing history, advertising identifiers, or any data from other apps.
- We do not track your location in the background. Location is read only while the app is open and only to tag a catch or show nearby waters.
- We do not build advertising profiles, and we have never sold or shared personal data with a data broker.
How your data is used
Your catches, photos and profile are visible to you and to the members of the private groups you join — nobody else. There is no public feed in Stringer Pro.
Catch photos are stored privately. When a group-mate views your catch, the app requests a short-lived, expiring link for that image. Photos are not publicly addressable on the internet.
Location coordinates are used to tag a catch to the right water, to show you nearby waters and boat ramps, and to compute your own fishing patterns. Your precise catch coordinates are never shown to anyone outside your private groups.
Where your data lives
Account data, catches, comments and photos are stored with Supabase, our hosting and database provider, on servers in the United States. Access is enforced by row-level security rules so that one member cannot read another's data outside a shared group.
The app also requests public data from third parties to show you conditions. These requests may include the coordinates of the water you are looking at, but never your identity or account: Open-Meteo (weather forecasts), the U.S. Geological Survey (river gauge readings), the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (stocking reports and lake profiles), and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (stocking reports and lake profiles). Map imagery is provided by Apple Maps or Google Maps depending on your device.
Your choices and rights
- You can log a catch without a photo and without location — both are optional at the moment you log.
- You can revoke location, camera and photo permissions at any time in your device settings; the app keeps working without them.
- You can edit or delete any catch you have logged.
- You can delete your entire account from Profile → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, catches, photos, comments and group memberships. It cannot be undone.
- You can request a copy of your data by emailing us.
Subscriptions and payments
The optional Stringer Pro subscription is billed by Apple through your App Store account. Your payment details never reach us — we receive only your subscription status (active, trial, or expired) and an anonymized transaction identifier so the app knows which features to unlock. Our subscription processor receives the same status information and nothing more.
Children
Stringer Pro is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account it is removed from our live database immediately; routine encrypted backups are cycled out within 30 days. Crash reports are kept for up to 12 months.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects how your data is handled, we will update the effective date above and note the change in the app before it takes effect.
