What's free, and what does Stringer Pro add?
Free
- The map and every public water in Illinois, Iowa and Missouri
- Fishing regulations and statewide limits
- Catch log, creel counter and life list
- Private groups, group feed and leaderboard
- Species guide and state records
Stringer Pro
- Stocking reports and alerts
- Agency fish surveys
- Depth contours
- Bite Forecast and Best Water
- River conditions
- Your Patterns and the trout program
Stringer Pro is $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year for one person, or $39.99 a year for the Family plan (U.S. prices — prices in other countries are set by the App Store and may differ). It renews automatically until you cancel.
Not everyone fishes all twelve months, so the yearly plan costs about the same as six months of monthly — and Stringer is there to tell you when the bite turns back on.
Do I need an account?
No. You can browse the map, limits, stocking, weather, species and state records without one. An account (email and password) is only needed for your catch log, groups, the group feed, the leaderboard and your profile.
I forgot my password
On the sign-in screen tap Forgot your password?, enter your email and open the link we send from your phone. Stringer Pro opens so you can choose a new password. Links expire after an hour — request a new one if yours has.
Subscriptions on iPhone
How do I subscribe?
- In Stringer Pro, open Settings → Stringer Pro (or tap any Pro feature).
- Choose Yearly, Monthly or Family. The price, period and renewal terms are shown before you buy.
- Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your Apple ID password.
Payment is charged to your Apple ID account when you confirm the purchase. If a free trial is offered, its length is shown before you start, and you're charged when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before.
How does the Family plan work?
The Family plan ($39.99 a year) uses Apple Family Sharing. The person who subscribes can share Stringer Pro with up to five other people in their Apple Family Sharing group, each on their own iPhone with their own Apple ID, at no extra cost.
- The subscriber sets up Family Sharing in the iPhone Settings app (tap your name, then Family) and invites the family.
- The subscriber makes sure sharing is turned on for Stringer Pro under Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
- Each family member opens Stringer Pro. If Pro doesn't show up on its own, they open Settings → Stringer Pro and tap Restore purchases.
Family members lose access if the subscription ends or they leave the Family Sharing group. The Monthly and Yearly plans are for one person and can't be shared.
How do I restore my subscription on a new phone?
Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple ID you subscribed with, open Settings → Stringer Pro in the app and tap Restore purchases.
How do I cancel or change my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not in the app:
- Open the iPhone Settings app and tap your name.
- Tap Subscriptions, then Stringer Pro.
- Choose a different plan, or tap Cancel Subscription.
You can also get there from the App Store app: tap your profile picture, then Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid the next charge; you keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app or your Stringer Pro account does not cancel a subscription.
Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Your account and data
How do I delete my account?
In the app go to Settings → Account → Delete account and confirm. This permanently deletes your account, catches, photos, comments, reactions and group memberships. Groups you own pass to another member. It can't be undone.
Deleting your account doesn't cancel an Apple subscription — cancel that in your Apple ID settings (above). Can't get into the app? Email us from the address on your account and we'll delete it for you.
Who can see my catches and fishing spots?
Only you and the members of the private groups you join — there's no public feed. Group members can see where each catch was logged, so if you'd rather keep a spot to yourself, log that catch with location turned off. Read the full Privacy Policy.
How do I report a post or block someone?
Tap the ⋯ menu on any catch, comment or angler's profile:
- Report this content — pick a reason and it comes to us. Every report is reviewed within 24 hours, and content or accounts that break our Terms are removed. We have zero tolerance for abusive or objectionable content.
- Block — hides that person's catches and profile from you, and yours from them, without removing either of you from a group.
You can also email reports to stringerpro1@gmail.com.
Fishing data
Where does the fishing information come from?
Waters, stocking, surveys, per-water rules and record books come from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the Missouri Department of Conservation. River gauges and Missouri lake depth surveys come from the U.S. Geological Survey, weather from Open-Meteo, and many lake outlines, rivers and Illinois ramps from © OpenStreetMap contributors. The Credits screen in the app lists every source. Stringer Pro is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of these agencies.
Are the limits in the app official?
No — they're a quick reference. The app shows each state's statewide limits plus per-water rules where the agency publishes them, but individual lakes and rivers often post stricter rules that legally apply instead, and regulations change. Always check the posted signs and the current regulations before you keep a fish:
- Illinois: ifishillinois.org (IDNR)
- Iowa: iowadnr.gov/things-do/fishing
- Missouri: mdc.mo.gov/fishing/regulations
Something in the app is wrong
Tell us — a wrong limit, a missing ramp, a misplaced pin. Use Settings → Send feedback in the app or email stringerpro1@gmail.com with the water's name and what's off.
